West Northants is undergoing significant regeneration, transforming the region into a vibrant and thriving area for residents, businesses, and visitors. Here are some of the key regeneration projects that have taken place and those on the horizon:

Current regeneration projects

Significant funding has been secured for the development of Northampton, with Northampton Forward delivering the Town Investment Plan to transform Northampton town centre. This includes over £33m of funding from Government with the aim to accelerate the opportunities to deliver the vision to ensure Northampton meets its full potential as a thriving, innovative and attractive destination.

Greyfriars

The Greyfriars development will provide Northampton with a lively public realm, improved green spaces, new housing and a host of crafts and entertainment venues.

Market Walk

The vacant Market Walk is being repurposed into a leisure, hospitality and entertainment destination. Leisure developer STACK are working with us on this exciting new venue.

Four Waterside and Marefair

These sites aim to connect Northampton town centre with surrounding communities, creating a gateway into Northampton that reflects the wider ambition of the town.

Marefair Heritage Park

This development is to create a new heritage park and green space to improve connections between Northampton town centre and train station, driving footfall to the town.

Abington and Fish Street

This project will increase seating and planting, introduce new art and play opportunities, as well as spaces for outdoor dining and community activity.

35-45 Abington Street

The rejuvenation of 35 – 45 Abington Street buildings will provide new homes for residents above modern leisure and retail space on the ground floor.

Old Black Lion Pub

The oldest pub in Northampton, this previously derelict Grade II listed building will be revived whilst also offering a new home to the Churches Conservation Trust.

24 Guildhall Road

This project is a partnership between WNC & NN Contemporary Art to enhance the space with new artist studios, a contemporary art gallery space and facilities.

Train Station Car Park

The new multi-storey car park will provide improved facilities at Northampton Train Station, by increasing the number of spaces from 800 to 1,198.

West Northants is committed to continuous improvement and development, ensuring that the region remains an attractive place to live, work, and visit. These regeneration projects are designed to boost the local economy, create jobs, and enhance the quality of life for all residents.

Vulcan Works Creative Hub

This was a £14million regeneration project offering state-of-the-art stylish collaborative workspace in the heart of Northampton’s Creative Quarter.

Extension of 78 Derngate

Work to create an extension and new garden to enhance this major cultural attraction was completed in July 2023, transforming the site.

Northampton Market Square

This transformation project has regenerated the heart of Northampton town centre now providing an events space for year-round events.
