Atsushi Horiba, Chairman & Group CEO of HORIBA, Ltd., Receives Honorary OBE from the United Kingdom

HORIBA Group (hereafter HORIBA) is proud to announce that Atsushi Horiba, Chairman & Group CEO, has been awarded the OBE by His Majesty King Charles III.

This prestigious honour recognises Mr. Horiba for his services to the UK automotive sector. The Order of the British Empire is a distinguished award granted to individuals who have achieved excellence in various fields such as science and the arts, or who have made significant contributions to public service and society. 

HORIBA’s presence in the UK began in 1977 with the establishment of its site in Northampton. Since then, the company has contributed to the development of cleaner, more efficient vehicles through its emission and air quality measurement systems.

HORIBA also supports scientific and healthcare research with water quality monitoring and advanced analytical technologies.

Today, HORIBA employs over 850 people across the UK, with operations including research, development and manufacturing in Northampton. HORIBA’s continued investment in the UK reflects its commitment to advancing technologies that improve quality of life and promote a cleaner, healthier, and more sustainable future.

In 2015, HORIBA acquired MIRA Ltd. (now HORIBA MIRA Limited), a leading provider of vehicle engineering and testing services. Through ongoing investment, HORIBA has delivered integrated solutions supporting the advancement of autonomous driving, reduction of environmental impact, and saving lives through the enhancement of vehicle safety.

In 2018, HORIBA MIRA’s “MIRA Technology Park” (now MIRA Tech Park) received the Queen’s Award for Enterprise in International Trade, and in 2024, the company was honored with the King’s Award for Enterprise in Sustainable Development, recognizing its commitment to growth in international markets and sustainable development. Furthermore, HORIBA MIRA actively participates in industry-academia-government projects, led by the UK government, to drive the development of next-generation vehicles and industrial progress on a global scale. In June, HORIBA MIRA was proud to host Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer, for the launch of the UK’s new Industrial Strategy. The announcement provided a national spotlight on the people, capabilities, and ground-breaking work being driven by HORIBA in the UK. In addition, HORIBA continues to contribute to education and talent development in the UK through the establishment of the MIRA Technology Institute, where the training and nurturing of young engineers is actively promoted.
